We asked Mama why she let us shout these profanities at the top of our lungs? Her response: “You were kids. Dirty words that Jamie and I enunciated with “a hard T” in one of the instances. If you know anything about this song, you may recall that there are two extremely dirty words in the lyrics. We would also sing every single song to the top of our lungs, including “Greased Lightning” in front of neighborhood audiences and family gatherings. One was Saturday Night Fever and the other was Grease. My sister Jamie and I had two 8-tracks growing up. The fact that her father passed away the night before the live show after a battle with cancer is heartbreaking. I can’t imagine having to step into Stockard Channing’s high heels, but she did it. Vanessa Hudgens was a solid Rizzo in my opinion. She’s one of the youngest in the ensemble, yet she looked like a grown woman singing “Freddy My Love.” “Her jugs are bigger than Annette’s?” is the actual line. Plus, they needed someone with fine hair so they could go from straight, innocent to wild and curly in the time frame of one commercial break.įun fact: I thought this was the line growing up until my Mama explained to me that the T-Birds were talking about Annette Funicello’s boobs. I bet the black leather catsuit had something to do with the decision-making process. I do find it odd that they didn’t secure a Broadway vet for the role of Sandy, but I’ll concede. I will admit that she did hold her own against Broadway superstar Aaron and twenty bopper icons Carly Rae and Vanessa Hudgens. Safe Haven - I saw this movie on opening day. Rock of Ages - I OWN THIS MOVE AND LOVE IT WITH ALL MY HEART. She had the deck stacked against her when they decided to remake it. Please do not judge me as I tick down her resume:įootloose - Nothing will be as good as the original. This is a weird fact that I’m still processing, yet it is very much true. I never really think about her being an actress, yet I’ve seen pretty much every movie she’s ever been in. I have mixed feelings about her being a judge on the show, but that’s a rant for another post. I loved, loved, loved when Julianne Hough was a dancer on Dancing with the Stars. I also choose to believe that she was ACTUALLY fan-girling when Boyz II Men serenaded her during “Beauty School Drop-Out.” Am I right? PS: I have since purchased the song and will listen to it for the rest of my days. Hello shorty shorts!Ĭarly Rae Jepsen did such a good job that I Googled to see if she had any Broadway performances in her resume. I know him as Enjolras from Les Miserables. You may know him as Mike Warren in Graceland. I thought Carlos was a solid performer.Īaron Tveit is a Broadway guy. For those of you who stopped watching Nickelodeon right around the time of You Can’t Do That On Television, you may know him from this season’s Dancing with the Stars. Some of you youngsters may know him from the Nickelodeon series and Big Time Rush and boy band by the same name. She worked the camera, worked the extras and owned the slight drizzle that fell in her face the entire time she was performing outside. I’m always impressed with the artists who can move around and sing at the same time. I had no idea the girl singing “Grease (Is the Word)” was Jessie J. If we can suspend our beliefs with Dylan, Steve, Brandon and Andrea, we can totally do it with Danny. Who cares that he’s a 33-year-old high school student? We all grew up with Beverly Hills 90210. And she knows how to rock a green screen projecting crashing waves at a fake beach. Here’s a breakdown of some of my favorite moments, as well as a list of my favorite performances. And Boyz II Men were a collective version of Teen Angel. They celebrated the pre-show dancing in the hallways scene with cell phone photos, behind-the-scenes set shots and last-minute umbrella purchases for the outdoor scenes, thanks to L.A.’s uninvited guest El Niño. They were also completely unapologetic about the fact that the performance was live. In fact, I thought it was actually pretty good! If we compare the performance to its live-action counterparts ( Sound of Music, Peter Pan and The Wiz) I’d say the producers of Grease Live learned many lessons from NBC on what NOT to do.įOX decided to remove the Broadway stage component and replace it with a huge warehouse on the Warner Bros lot in Los Angeles. I thought the best thing about Grease Live was the fact that Grease Live didn’t suck.

This micro storyboard works because it caters to its audience: busy SMEs. We’ve since fully incorporated it into our organization’s storyboarding practice. I felt like someone had read my Instructional Designer’s mind. Following a few iterations, I sent my boss a document for her review, and what she sent back, with her edits, was brilliant. After that meeting, I was tasked with making it come to life electronically. As we talked through the learning objectives and potential flow of the course, a kind of storyboard snapshot emerged. She is very skilled at learning and course development and immediately brought out a piece of scrap paper and started drawing. I met with my boss to discuss a few projects and attempted to explain what I saw in my mind. I was struggling with the current process because, in my mind’s eye, I was envisioning each course as a sort of flowchart, but it wasn’t translating well on paper. As a new Instructional Designer to my organization, I was becoming familiar with the way our unit developed storyboards and how an eLearning course was conceptualized. The creation of my organization’s micro storyboard was bought about the same way most great innovations are born: by brainstorming. When you’re working with time constraints and busy SMEs, it can be advantageous to produce a high-level overview or micro storyboard, if you will, to garner quick but important feedback. Each kind of storyboard has its purpose, but in this age of rapid timelines and short attention spans, I want to introduce you to an efficient and effective alternative: a micro storyboard.ĭepending on your style or organization’s preference, a storyboard can range in complexity, though it is not uncommon for a basic storyboard to take upwards of 8–10 hours to create for a 15-minute course. In some cases, IDs may even use prototypes as their storyboard. Traditionally, they are used as a visual medium so that stakeholders can see a graphic representation of a course. Typically, storyboards tell the SME (and you) the sequence of the course and include content, illustrations, and oftentimes "directors’ notes" of what each scene will be depicting. Creating a storyboard is still the best practice, I’d even argue mandatory, and should not be omitted from the course design process. Instructional Design best practices include drafting a detailed, scene-by-scene storyboard for your eLearning course creation. The tourism industry is also considered a direct winner in this scenario. “One thing people often forget is that even producers who are not necessarily exporting but are selling to the domestic market actually also benefit because the imported competing goods become more expensive-since prices of competing imports will also rise because of the higher exchange rate,” Habito told. However, even non-exporting producers can win as the peso depreciates since the falling peso has made imported, competing products costlier. Producers of agricultural products will benefit, especially if their imported component is not that big,” he said. “Many farmers will benefit in terms of the increased peso value of their exported products. These include workers in export industries that involve electronics-which Habito said is the country’s number one export-and agriculture-where a huge chunk of the country’s exports come from. That is why those who depend on remittances from abroad-such as those from Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who earn money in foreign currencies- benefit when the peso depreciates since they would get more pesos for every dollar sent to them.Īmong the gainers are also exporters who likewise receive more pesos for their foreign currency earnings. The peso depreciation means more pesos exchanged for each dollar earned. There are winners-or gainers-and losers when it comes to the depreciation of the local currency, according to Habito. That’s why I’d rather use neutral terms like appreciating or depreciating,” Habito said. “There are winners whichever way the peso goes, and that’s what we have to consider before we use terms like weak, worst, or strong. When the peso appreciates, Filipino goods and services get more expensive while foreign or imported goods become cheaper for Filipinos. When the peso depreciates, domestic goods and services become cheaper for foreigners. When people say ’ is the worst performing currency in the ASEAN,’ it looks as if we are in a dire position,” he added. “What I like about those terms is that there is no connotation that is negative or positive. 8/8/2023 0 Comments Victoria twilightHe does not succeed, and is killed by the Quileute werewolves. Many trails are just sand/ dirt, some have gravel. If coming with small children be prepared to have snacks and drinks on hand. You need gallons of water and sunscreen if you come in summertime. We came once in May and it was so hot my kids hardly got out of the car. Definitely recommend to arrive early as within an hour’s time 3xs as many people arrive on scene. This trip we left our hotel in time to arrive at sunrise. I have had the most relaxing time, it gives you a sense of peace and quiet as you drive around looking at all the natural wonders. Arrive early if you want some peace and quiet. Tour buses and hikers and families flooded the park about 3 hours after opening. I enjoyed hours of quiet solitude until the crowds picked up. Animals ALWAYS have the right of way, so don't be a jerk. Be sure to watch out for local wildlife: there was an actual traffic jam caused by bighorn sheep that just didn't want to budge. There are several loops that I drove multiple times. There is a ton to see just off the road, and you can never get out of your car and still experience the beauty. The park has lots of hiking trails, but I did not take any. There is a very easy "hike" by the parking lot, which is great if (like me) you aren't experienced but still want to get some photos of the gorgeous red rock formations. There's a small museum at the center, a tiny gift shop, rangers on hand to answer questions, restrooms, and a "backyard" with multiple bird feeders that allows for terrific bird watching. I made a beeline for the small visitors center to look at a park map and get any other valuable information. I arrived before opening, so I had to sit and wait for about 20 minutes. It was my first visit, and I didn't have much of a plan. Wanting some alone time, I set out very early for Valley of Fire state park with my phone, a cooler, hat, and sunscreen. I'm not big on nature, but I started to dip my toe in the great outdoors during the 2020 lockdown. Overall we enjoyed the beautiful rock scenery, took some nice pictures, and the kids enjoyed climbing the rocks. There was a hike after you get out of the parking lot and some of our group took a short hike. It looked far on the map but wasn't too much further up the path. After the visit to the visitor center, we made our way to White Domes Loop. They were much cleaner than the ones out on the trails. There were restrooms inside and outside of the visitor center. They also have Wi-Fi, but you will have to pay $3 and up. One of our next stops was the visitor center and the family enjoyed looking at the various souvenirs, trinkets, and snacks. The rocks were easy to climb at this location and there were great views of the wind holes and rock structures. One of the first stops was Beehives and this was a really nice spot for the kids. The drive was pretty easy from the city and the traffic was relatively fast and then it slowed toward the park entrance where we paid the $15 entrance fee per car. I've been using a handheld sharpener of a similar design that I love for getting a quick edge when I notice the need. Not a good photo of the knife, but I had to share this photo anyways because it was the tastiest thing I've cut with the knife - goose sausage and peppered havarti on crackers.Love the sharpener The coolest thing about this knife is the sheath with it's double rod sharpener. The aforementioned tension issue, as well as the overall bulk of the tool, are two reasons that hold me back from reaching for this as my primary tool, but there are several good uses for it nonetheless.Īcknowledgment:Many thanks to both Trailspace and Camillus for the opportunity to test this tool. The Camillus Trench Pocket Tool is a serviceable five-tool option for those looking to save some money up front. The bail could be slimmed down to be less intrusive.ģ) Pins are slightly jagged and catch on fabric: the bottom pin that both the blade and the can opener pivot on is rough to the touch instead of smooth and has caught on fabric (i.e. However, when handing it to someone else to use, I have to mention the loose tension for fear of an accidental closure leading to a cut.ġ) Thumb notch is on wrong side (for us right-handers anyways): this causes me to either have to change hands once the blade is open, or open with my left hand, which is rather unnatural for me.Ģ) Bail (metal loop) is in the way: in almost any position, the bail is in the way, either on the grip or covering the blade housing thus restricting proper closure. During my 3+ month testing period, I learned how and when to accommodate for this loose tension and have not had any negative results. Without a lockout mechanism, I find the tension is too loose on the knife blade. The sucker is sharp and pointy though, as any good awl should be. I haven’t found many ongoing uses for the awl aside from the sporadic hole punching or scraping dirt out of things. With such tiny screws on many of today's gear and gadgets, there were many times I needed a screwdriver but this one was simply too wide. This certainly works well, but only when the screwdriver fits the screwhead. I’d personally like to see this feature replaced with a more useful feature (i.e. When I do, many cans today come with easy pull-tab lids. Perhaps that speaks to my food choices, but rarely am I opening a can of anything. The wide, sturdy handle allows for good bottle-opening leverage. I’m more of a can fan, but on the few occasions I’ve needed a bottle opener around the house, this tool does the trick with ease. It’s not often that I take bottles into the backcountry or even picnic site with me. Since it takes well to being sharpened, I don't fault it any for its blade. From my perspective, a dinged edge is to be expected for amount I've used it and for a tool at this price. It has shown no signs of corrosion or excessive wear, but has dinged a little bit due to use. The blade is made from Sandvik 12C27 steel. Ideal uses are normal hiking/camping activities like food preparation, cord cutting, shaving kindling, etc. You may need a multi-tool just to get this out of the secure packaging.Īs long as the user recognizes this is a basic blade and doesn’t try to do anything macho crazy with it (hint: no batoning), it will meet the needs of the basic user just fine. The giant carrot required a serious blade. I’ve also used it around the house and in the garden when applicable. (135g) multi-tool for a variety of functions for a 3+ month window in which it has been in my pack for day hiking, multi-day hiking, setting up and tearing down camp, fishing, kindling making, meal preparation, and general picnicking. |
